A Baby in Danger
Long ago in Egypt there ruled a cruel king called Pharaoh. He thought he was a god, and he treated the Children of Israel very badly. One day he gave a terrible order: every baby boy born to them must be taken away. It was a frightening time, and one mother had just had a beautiful baby boy. His name was Musa.
The Basket on the River
Musa's mother was so worried. Then Allah put a thought into her heart: "Place him in a basket and let the river carry him. Do not be afraid โ I will bring him back to you." That was a very hard thing to do! But she trusted Allah completely, and she gently set the little basket onto the water of the River Nile.
Safe in the Palace
Where do you think the river took baby Musa? Straight to Pharaoh's own palace! Pharaoh's wife Asiyah found the basket and loved the baby right away. "Let us keep him," she said. So the very baby Pharaoh was searching for grew up safely inside Pharaoh's house. Only Allah could plan something so amazing!
Quick Question!
Where did the river carry baby Musa?
Back to His Mother
Baby Musa would not drink milk from anyone in the palace. Musa's clever big sister, who had been following the basket, said: "I know a woman who can feed him!" And so they brought Musa's very own mother to the palace. Allah kept His promise and gave her son back to her, exactly as He had said.
The Light on the Mountain
Musa grew into a strong, honest man. Years later, while travelling with his family at night, he saw a light glowing on a mountain called Tur. He climbed up to fetch some fire to keep his family warm โ and there Allah spoke to him directly! Allah told him: "O Musa, I am your Lord." What an incredible honour!
The Staff and the Shining Hand
Allah gave Musa two miracles to show that he was truly a prophet. "Throw down your staff," said Allah โ and the wooden stick turned into a real, moving snake! Then Musa put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, it shone with a beautiful bright light. Allah then sent him to Pharaoh with His message.
Quick Question!
What did Prophet Musa's staff turn into?
Speaking Kindly to Pharaoh
Allah told Musa and his brother Harun something beautiful: "Speak to him gently." Even to a cruel king like Pharaoh, they had to be polite! Musa said, "Worship Allah alone, and set my people free." But Pharaoh was too proud. He called his best magicians to prove Musa wrong.
The Day of the Magicians
The magicians threw their ropes and sticks, and with their tricks they seemed to wriggle like snakes. Then Musa threw his staff โ and it became a huge real snake that swallowed all their tricks! The magicians knew at once that this was no magic. They fell down and said, "We believe in the Lord of Musa and Harun!"
Trapped at the Sea
Allah told Musa to lead the believers away from Egypt at night. But Pharaoh chased after them with his whole army! Soon the believers were trapped: a huge sea in front of them, and thundering chariots behind. The people cried, "They have caught us!" But Musa said calmly, "No! My Lord is with me, and He will guide me."
The Sea Splits Open
Allah said: "Strike the sea with your staff." Musa struck the water โ and the whole sea split into two mighty walls with a dry path running right through the middle! The believers walked safely across. When Pharaoh's army followed, the walls of water came crashing back down. Allah had saved the believers and stopped the cruel king.
