Skills Are the Glue
Work with an agent for a while and you notice it: you keep walking it through the same workflow. A Skill is how you capture that workflow once — and reuse it every time after.
What Is a Skill?
A Skill is a named, reusable workflow — one package that bundles everything the agent needs to do one recurring job well.
- The instructions — the steps of the workflow, written down.
- The tools it needs to carry those steps out.
- The context — the reference material that makes the job land right.
One Repeatable Capability
This is the big idea: a Skill ties prompting, tools, and context into one capability — so the agent does a complex task the same good way every time, instead of you re-explaining it.
Plugins & Marketplaces
A Skill you built does not have to stay yours. Package it as a plugin, publish it to a marketplace, and the workflow travels.
- A plugin wraps a Skill so it can be installed elsewhere.
- A marketplace is where such packages are shared and found.
- You reuse other people’s workflows — and they reuse yours — instead of everyone rebuilding the same thing.
When to Make One
You do not need to plan Skills in advance — you notice them. The signal is simple: if you have walked the agent through the same multi-step thing three times, that is a Skill. Stop repeating it and capture it.
Build It
How to implement: write down one workflow you repeat — the steps, the tools it uses, and the context it needs. That written-down workflow is the spec for your first Skill.
- Weekly AI Tasks tracker — an “add task from message” Skill packages the parse→validate→store steps, so every message is handled the same way.
- Personal brand site — a “generate a project entry from a repo” Skill makes each entry consistent and grounded; share it as a plugin so others can reuse it.
What you learned
A Skill captures a recurring workflow — instructions, tools and context in one package. Plugins and marketplaces are how good workflows spread, so you and others stop rebuilding the same thing.
